First Rehearsal: February 8th, 2027

Tech:  Begins March 8th

Performances: March 19 - April 10 (12 performances)

MUST BE AVAILABLE FOR ALL TECH AND PERFORMANCES

Rehearsals: T-F 6:30 - 10 pm and Saturday 10 am - 2 pm

All performers will receive a performance stipend.

We do not offer housing.

West Valley Performing Arts is seeking a multi-ethnic and gender-inclusive cast for this musical. The Production Team welcomes and encourages performers of all races, ethnicities, body types, gender identities, sexual orientations, and disabilities to audition

For your virtual audition: Please slate with your name, height, and if you are available for callbacks. Please prepare 2 monologues from the provided materials found in the submission link.

Callback material will be sent directly to all individuals being considered for roles.

Character Descriptions

TRUVY JONES (Female-presenting, 30s-50s). Owner of the beauty shop. She is feisty, wisecracking, and outspoken. Heart of gold but has been dealt some hard knocks. She offers hairspray with a lot of teasing. (Ability to style hair a plus, but not required)

 ANNELLE DUPUY-DESOTO (Female-presenting, 20s). Beauty shop assistant. She is unsure and timid at the beginning of the play. Throughout the story she goes from awkward and shy, to wild, then very religious. (Ability to style hair a plus, but not required)

CLAIREE BELCHER (Female-presenting, 50s-70s). Widow of former mayor. Grande dame. Elegant, sophisticated, intelligent and very witty. Ouiser’s platonic soulmate.

SHELBY EATENTON-LATCHERIE (Female-presenting, 20s). M’Lynn’s daughter. She is strong-willed, outgoing, and passionate. She loves all the other women but has a stubborn streak, much like her mother who she adores.

M’LYNN EATENTON (Female-presenting, 40s-60s). Shelby’s mother. Socially prominent career woman. Practical, intelligent, and loving. She is passionate and stubborn about her daughter. 

OUISER BOUDREAUX (Female-presenting, 50s-70s). Wealthy curmudgeon. Acerbic but loveable. She is eccentric and quick-witted. Clairee’s platonic soulmate.

Performances: January 29, 2027-February 20th, 2027 on Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30pm with matinees on Saturdays at 3pm

Rehearsals: Weekday evenings and Saturdays 9am-1pm, beginning October 22nd, 2026

Cast members must be available for all dress rehearsals, tech rehearsals, and performances from October 22nd 2026 thru February 20th 2027

For all auditions, please prepare to sing 16 measures in the style of the show. No a cappella singing, please. An accompanist will be available. Connections to your phone will also be available to play accompaniment tracks.

CHARACTER LIST:

J.M. Barrie — Male, A4 / Ab2Successful Scottish playwright, 25–45. Newt Scamander meets JD from Scrubs: gentle, socially awkward, more fluent in imaginary worlds than in drawing rooms, and forever drifting into daydreams mid-conversation. Autistic, wistful, and carrying old family grief he's never set down. Always the dreamer and, crucially, the instigator of play. We are looking for warmth and oddness, not timidity.

Charles Frohman / Captain Hook (one actor plays both) — Male | Frohman: G4 / B2. Hook: E4 / C#3. "The Napoleon of Drama," Broadway producer and Barrie's fiercely loyal champion. Jack Donaghy meets Chris Traeger: cigar-chomping, enormous ego, fully aware of that ego, and running on relentless, genuine belief in the people around him. He is the paternal figure Barrie never had. As Hook, that same swagger turns theatrical and dangerous, but it should still feel like he wants Barrie to succeed underneath. Comic timing and command of a room are essential.

The Davies Boys — cast as a team, so ages will depend on each other, so that the oldest and youngest make sense. George — Male, E5 / G3 - The eldest. Peter Pevensie (Lion Witch Wardrobe) meets Mike Wheeler (Stranger Things): sensible and mature, takes charge when someone has to, and still fully capable of throwing himself into the game. Leads because he's good at it and because his brothers need him to. Peter — Male, E5 / Ab3 - Second youngest. Christopher Robin (who has locked the door to the Hundred Acre Wood) meets Ender Wiggin: too smart for his own good. His journey (from "I don't believe" to embracing Barrie's world of magic) is the heart of the show. We need an actor who can hold stillness and let us watch him think. Jack — Male, Eb5 / A3 - Second oldest. Calvin from Calvin and Hobbes meets a Weasley twin: the naughtiest and most outlandish of the four, mischief powered by imagination, and every scheme comes from a good heart. He's testing the rules to see what they're made of. Michael — Male, Eb5 / A3 - The youngest. Russell from Up meets Dash Parr (Incredibles): the loudest, the most confident, and utterly certain of every statement he makes. Jack breaks the rules on purpose; Michael has no idea there are any. Earnest, fearless, fast.

Sylvia Llewelyn Davies — Female, F5 / F#3 A recent widow and mother of four boys. Grown up Anne Shirley meets Molly Weasley: full of loving stories who raises her sons to do the same, treats imagination as a way of living rather than a phase to outgrow, and will go to war for her children without raising her voice. There is something she is not telling anyone, and she manages it with the same stubbornness she manages everything else. We are looking for joy, fight, and a spine. No fragility.

Mrs. du Maurier — Female, E5 / C#4 Socialite and Sylvia's mother. Violet Crawley meets Professor McGonagall: etiquette is her armor, her humor is bone-dry, and every hard thing she does is on behalf of her daughter and grandsons. The steel was built out of grief, and it is not the whole of her. This is the grandmother you'd actually want in your corner: fierce, loyal, and quietly funny. Play the lines heart-centered but cover them in dry humor.

Mary Barrie — Female, D5 / E4 Barrie's wife. Serious, prim, and proper. She and James must love each other, or nothing about this story works. Monica Geller meets Claire Dunphy: precise, self-aware, loves hard, and married a traumatized man who keeps drifting somewhere she can't follow. She is not the villain of this piece; she is relatable and frustrated, and we have to see why he fell for her. In any other story, she’d probably be the heroine.

Ensemble - (all ranges) vibrant, loving, funny, wonderful group of people who surround James and become his fantasy world made real. He loves them and they love him. Characters who endlessly strive to make his dreams come true. 3 Male and 3 Female
