Keeping Theatre Affordable on the West Side
At West Valley Arts, we’re committed to bringing high-quality, professional theatre to the west side at a price that remains affordable and accessible. But what many people may not realize is that ticket sales cover only about 25% of our total operating costs.
That means every time you purchase a ticket to a production like A Chorus Line or The Play That Goes Wrong, you're helping—but you're only covering a small fraction of what it takes to produce the magic you see on stage.
Where Does the Rest Come From?
Producing professional theatre requires more than talent and creativity. It takes real resources to pay our actors, designers, and technical crews. It takes materials to build sets, design costumes, and keep our venues running. It takes staff working behind the scenes to market shows, sell tickets, manage operations, and handle countless other details.
And lately, it’s becoming even more challenging.
As tariffs drive up the cost of raw materials like lumber, fabric, and electronics—many of which are essential for building sets, lighting the stage, and costuming our casts—our production costs are rising faster than ever.
At the same time, we’ve noticed an increased hesitancy among private donors and corporate sponsors. With ongoing economic uncertainty, businesses and individuals alike are understandably cautious about committing to new philanthropic investments.
Why This Matters Now
We know our audiences feel the same financial pressures at home. That’s why we remain committed to keeping ticket prices as affordable as possible. Raising prices to cover the full cost of production would make it harder for many families, students, and seniors on the west side to experience live theatre. And that’s not the future we want for our community.
But without increased support from donors, sponsors, and neighbors like you, maintaining the quality and accessibility of our productions becomes harder with each passing season.
How You Can Help
If you love having professional, local theatre right here on the west side, we invite you to help make it possible:

Every contribution, big or small, helps us continue our mission of delivering exceptional, affordable theatre experiences for all.
Thank You for Believing in Us
